India, Feb. 10 -- Manipur police on Tuesday warned of strict legal action against individuals and social media accounts spreading misinformation and instigating communal tension following the recent violence in Litan, Ukhrul district.

According to a police bulletin, circulating fake news, rumours, or misleading content about the state's internal situation will be treated as sedition, with offenders liable for prosecution.

The advisory comes after videos circulated on social media suggested that security forces, allegedly along with Kuki militants, set fire to Tangkhul homes in Litan Sareikhong. Reports claimed that over 20 houses were razed around midnight.
