Imphal, Aug. 17 -- Security forces in Manipur, including the Assam Rifles and state police commandos, arrested nine active cadres of banned insurgent groups during a series of intelligence-based operations across Thoubal, Kakching and Churachandpur districts between August 9 and 16.

According to a defence wing statement issued on Monday, the joint operations involved the Assam Rifles, Manipur Police, Kakching Commando and Thoubal Commando units. The arrested cadres were linked to banned outfits, including the People's Liberation Army (PLA), the armed wing of the proscribed Revolutionary People's Front (RPF), the United People's Party of Kangleipak (UPPK) and the United Kuki National Army (UKNA).
