Imphal, Sept. 17 -- A Kuki civil society working committee has enforced an indefinite counter-blockade on National Highway-202 at Chassad in Manipur's Kamjong district following the expiration of a 36-hour administrative ultimatum.

The blockade, which began at noon on Wednesday, follows allegations by Kuki groups of a six-month-long economic embargo imposed by sections of the Tangkhul Naga community, a claim that has not been independently verified.

Reports indicate that women volunteers have begun inspecting vehicles and confiscating essential commodities, though emergency services, medical supplies, telecom, electricity departments and military convoys remain exempt.
