Imphal, Aug. 21 -- The working committee of the Joint Tribes Council Manipur (JTCM) has announced an indefinite ban on goods-carrying vehicles along national highways passing through Inpui, Liangmai, Rongmei and Zeme areas, citing the state government's alleged inaction over the killing of six Naga men and the August 20 crackdown by security forces on demonstrators in Kangpokpi district.

In a statement, the council said protests in Kangpokpi turned violent on August 20 after security forces used tear gas against demonstrators, leaving several people injured.

The council expressed frustration that the case, which has been transferred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), has not yet led to the identification of those responsible. ...
