Imphal, Sept. 19 -- A local court in Manipur has remanded a couple to judicial custody until September 29 following allegations that they physically assaulted and threatened their seven-year-old daughter.

The child's biological father and stepmother were arrested from their rented residence in Khurai, Imphal East, on September 15, officials said on Saturday.

The arrests followed a complaint filed by the child's school authorities after they noticed injuries on the minor and raised concerns about her physical condition.

According to the prosecution, the child told authorities during a medical examination that she had allegedly been repeatedly assaulted and threatened by both accused.
