India, Feb. 24 -- Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday approved the construction of 5,000 new houses for the rehabilitation of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Manipur under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Gramin (PMAY-G).

The approval follows a proposal submitted by the Manipur government for a special project under PMAY-G to construct houses for those affected by the ethnic violence in the state. The decision covers the financial year 2025-26 and was taken after a meeting between Chouhan and Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh in New Delhi.
