Manipur: 31 Kuki and Naga hostages released in joint security operation
Guwahati, May 16 -- In Manipur, 31 out of 38 individuals from the Kuki and Naga communities, who were reportedly held captive by armed groups in Kangpokpi and Senapati districts, have been safely released, officials said on May 16. The operation was carried out through joint efforts of security forces, civil society groups and political representatives.
Authorities said the release followed recent violent incidents in Kangpokpi and Noney districts that had increased tensions in the state. Discussions between government officials, security agencies and civil society organisations are still ongoing to secure the release of others who are believed to be in captivity.
