Francis Halzen wins 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics for high-energy neutrino discovery
Guwahati, Oct. 6 -- Belgian-American particle physicist Francis Halzen has won the 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics for his "decisive contributions to the IceCube Neutrino Observatory and the discovery of high-energy neutrinos of astrophysical origin", the award-giving body said on Tuesday.
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences selects the Nobel Prize in Physics winners. The prize carries a total award of 12 million Swedish crowns (1.2 million dollars), which is shared among the laureates when there is more than one winner.
The Nobel Prizes were established under the will of Swedish inventor and entrepreneur Alfred Nobel, whose fortune was built partly through the invention of dynamite. They were first awarded in 1901 to honour achievements ...
