Guwahati, July 16 -- Argentina produced a remarkable late comeback to defeat England 2-1 in the FIFA World Cup 2026 semifinal on Wednesday, securing their place in the final where they will face Spain.

England took the lead in the 55th minute through Anthony Gordon, who finished a well-worked move after being set up by Morgan Rogers. Thomas Tuchel's side looked on course for a place in their first World Cup final since 1966 as they held their advantage for much of the second half.

However, Argentina responded with a late surge. Midfielder Enzo Fernandez equalised in the 86th minute, shifting the momentum in favour of the defending champions.
