New Delhi/Guwahati, April 24 -- The Supreme Court has issued notices to the Assam government and five police officers on an appeal filed by Rimly Gogoi Saikia challenging the Gauhati High Court's refusal to order a CBI probe into the alleged custodial torture and death of her brother, late Dipankar Gogoi.
A bench comprising Justice Sanjay Kumar and Justice K Vinod Chandran passed the order while hearing the petition titled Rimly Gogoi Saikia vs State of Assam & Ors.
The apex court also stayed proceedings in the complaint case pending before the Titabar Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate and directed that the Central Bureau of Investigation be added as a respondent in the matter.
