Guwahati, Oct. 7 -- The Communist Party of India (Marxist) and other Left parties staged a protest at Volvo Point in Ulubari, Guwahati, on Wednesday, demanding enhanced compensation for flood victims of Upper Assam and immediate financial assistance for affected families.

The protesters sought Rs 25 lakh compensation for the families of people who died in the floods, along with immediate financial assistance for families who suffered losses to their homes, property and livelihoods.

The Left parties also demanded that Assam's recurring flood problem be declared a national issue, citing its impact on lives, property and livelihoods across the state.
