Assam's historic Namrup-I fertiliser plant makes way for new ammonia-urea plant

Guwahati: The historic Unit-I of the Namrup Fertiliser Plant, India's first natural gas-based fertiliser plant, has been demolished after more than five decades of operation, paving the way for a new ammonia-urea plant in Assam.
Namrup-I began commercial production on January 1, 1969, and played a key role in fertiliser production and agricultural development in Assam and the Northeast.
The demolition marks the beginning of preparations for the construction of the Assam Valley Fertilizer and Chemical Company Limited (AVFCCL), a joint venture that will replace the ageing facility with a new ammonia-urea plant.
