Guwahati, Aug. 9 -- Demow Model Hospital in Assam's Sivasagar district has treated its 4,000th snakebite patient, recording just one death since the hospital's snakebite management programme began.

The milestone was reached on August 7, highlighting the role of early medical intervention, continuous monitoring and public confidence in improving snakebite outcomes in rural areas.

Of the 4,000 patients treated at the government hospital, only one died, in 2020. The remaining patients recovered, while around 13 per cent of the cases were identified as venomous bites.
