India, March 22 -- Amiya Kumar Bhuyan, the sitting MLA from Bihpuria, has resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after being denied a party ticket for the upcoming Assembly elections.

Bhuyan submitted his resignation to the party's top leadership, expressing disappointment over the decision to drop him from the candidate list.

Announcing his next move, the legislator said he would contest the polls as an Independent candidate from the Bihpuria constituency. "I will file my nomination papers on Monday and contest the elections as an independent candidate," he told reporters.
