India, March 24 -- An Assam Police personnel allegedly attempted suicide using his service weapon inside the district jail premises in Baksa.

The injured has been identified as Gunjit Baishya, a resident of Baghmara in Bajali and a member of the 24th IR Battalion. He reportedly sustained a bullet injury to his chest and was immediately rushed to Guwahati for advanced medical treatment.

According to initial reports, the incident occurred inside the jail campus, raising concerns over security protocols and the mental well-being of personnel on duty.
