Guwahati, July 9 -- The Assam government has unveiled a new urban development strategy aimed at easing pressure on Guwahati by creating a series of planned townships around the city, with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma saying the initiative will guide the capital's next phase of growth.

The proposal will be implemented through the newly formed Guwahati Satellite City Development Authority, which has been tasked with preparing plans, arranging finances and steering the development of the satellite townships.
