Assam floods: Himanta Biswa Sarma visits Sonari, says damage worse than anticipated
Sivasagar, July 22 -- Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday described the ongoing floods as "unprecedented" after visiting flood-affected areas in Sonari of Charaideo district, where he reviewed rescue and relief operations amid a worsening flood situation.
The Chief Minister inspected inundated villages, interacted with displaced families staying in relief camps and reviewed the progress of rescue operations with district officials. He also assessed the challenges faced by rescue teams in reaching stranded residents in remote areas.
Addressing reporters, Sarma said the scale of the disaster was far greater than initially anticipated.
