Guwahati, April 8 -- Tension briefly flared in Assam's Bijni on Tuesday after workers of the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) accused an NDA candidate of attempting to distribute cash, prompting police intervention.

The allegation was made against NDA candidate Arup Kumar Dey, who was reportedly at the residence of former Executive Member late Singharam Boro in No. 1 Vetagaon when the incident unfolded.

According to UPPL workers, Dey had gone to the residence to distribute money, triggering a heated exchange at the spot.

The party appealed to political leaders and workers to avoid actions that could disturb peace in the area, saying Bijni has a long history of communal harmony and peaceful coexistence.
