Guwahati, April 8 -- In a dramatic last-minute development, Congress candidate Suren Daimari for the Udalguri (ST) Assembly constituency, has withdrawn his candidature and resigned from the party.
Daimari was in the fray against the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) candidate Dipen Boro and the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) nominee Rihon Daimary. Following his withdrawal, the contest in Udalguri is now set to be between the UPPL and the BPF.
His exit comes a before polling on April 9 and is expected to impact the Congress's prospects in the constituency.
Polling for the Assam Assembly elections will be held in a single phase on April 9, with counting scheduled for May 2.
