Guwahati, May 5 -- The Indian National Congress (INC) registered its biggest victory margin in the Assam Assembly elections from Gauripur, where Abdus Sobahan Ali Sarkar won by 1,19,097 votes.
The margin was the highest secured by the party in the 2026 Assembly polls and established Gauripur as Congress' strongest seat in the state in this election cycle.
Among other major victories for the party, Jaleshwar recorded a winning margin of 1,09,688 votes, followed by Samaguri with 1,08,310 votes. Algapur-Katlicherra also witnessed a significant Congress victory with a margin of 1,05,448 votes.
While these constituencies also crossed the one-lakh mark, their victory margins remained notably lower than that of Gauripur.
