India, March 29 -- The Assam Congress, acting ahead of the state Assembly elections, removed 15 party members from its ranks for six years on Sunday, March 29, citing serious breaches of party rules and anti-party behaviour.

Assam Congress chief Gaurav Gogoi approved the decision at a key stage of the state's election process.

The party released an official statement listing the expelled members and their respective constituencies, without specifying detailed charges.

Among those removed are Bhaskar Jyoti Baruah (Titabor), Abul Miah (Gauripur), Aftadur Ali Khan (Chenga), Tapan Das (Udharbond), Sandip Das (Katigorah), and Jahurul Islam Barbhuiya (Borkhola).
