Guwahati: The Assam Cabinet has approved a new mechanism for the issuance of Aadhaar cards to adults, introducing stricter scrutiny for applicants above the age of 18 in a move aimed at preventing illegal immigrants from obtaining the identity document.
Announcing the decision after a Cabinet meeting on Saturday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Aadhaar enrolment for individuals aged over 18 will no longer be processed through the regular system. Instead, such applications will require verification and approval from the state government.
