Guwahati, Oct. 20 -- A youth died and his friend was critically injured after an alleged mob attack following a two-wheeler accident at Borka Panitema in Assam's Rangia, triggering protests outside Rangia police station on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Dhanjit Kalita, a resident of Athgaon in Rangia, while his friend, Bishal, remains in critical condition at a local hospital.

The duo was returning from Durga Puja celebrations when their two-wheeler met with an accident.

Kalita's family alleged that bystanders attacked the youths instead of helping after the crash, leading to Kalita's death from sustained injuries.
