Guwahati: Two undertrial prisoners lodged in separate jail facilities in Assam's Nagaon district were found dead in their beds on Saturday morning, prompting the district administration to order an inquiry into the incidents.
The deaths were reported from Nagaon Central Jail and Nagaon Special Jail, both located within the same premises but functioning under separate administrations.
At Nagaon Central Jail, an inmate identified as Jitumoni Konwar, a resident of Raha, was found unresponsive in his bed during a routine morning inspection. Jail authorities said the body was discovered during the daily check.
