Doomdooma, April 22 -- Relentless heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours has caused severe disruption across Doomdooma in Upper Assam's Tinsukia district.
"The river is no longer calm; it is eating away the land and bringing everything down with it," said a resident from a riverside village, pointing to fallen shrubs drifting downstream.
Swelling rivers, rapid erosion, and urban flooding have combined to damage homes, destroy crops, and paralyse daily life. The downpour, triggered by an active weather system, has led to muddy river waters carrying uprooted shrubs and eroded soil, signalling an alarming rise in riverbank degradation.
