Doomdooma: Three members of a family were swept away by strong river currents at Silikha Ghat River under Hatijan Gaon Panchayat in the Makum constituency in Assam's Tinsukia district on Friday, following a rescue attempt.

One body has been recovered so far.

According to local sources, the incident occurred when Shankar Kalandi (33) of Silikha Tea Estate allegedly jumped into the river under circumstances that are not yet known.

In an attempt to save him, his wife Anita Kalandi (32) and elder sister Regina Kalandi Gor (34) of Digboi Powai Tea Estate also entered the water.

All three were caught in the strong current and went missing in the river.
