Assam: Severe ground cracks hit Ledo's Jharna Basti, around 100 families affected
Dibrugarh, Oct. 2 -- Severe cracks have developed in houses and roads at Jharna Basti in Ledo, under Margherita Co-district in Assam's Tinsukia district, leaving around 100 families affected and raising concerns over their safety.
According to local residents, the cracks have been widening, with several families already relocated to safer locations amid fears that the situation could worsen.
Residents have alleged that coal dumping in the area may be responsible for the damage.
Taking note of the situation, Margherita MLA Bhaskar Sharma on Friday visited the affected area along with officials from the co-district administration and representatives of North Eastern Coalfields to assess the situation.
