Assam: Over 46,000 affected across six districts; first death reported in Dhemaji
Guwahati, July 1 -- Floods continued to batter parts of Assam on Tuesday, leaving over 46,000 people affected across six districts as rising rivers inundated thousands of hectares of farmland, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said in its latest flood report.
According to the ASDMA, 46,938 people have been impacted in 221 villages spread across 10 revenue circles in Dhemaji, Nalbari, Dibrugarh, Chirang, Lakhimpur and Biswanath districts. Dhemaji remains the hardest-hit district, with 45,841 residents affected by the flooding.
The state also recorded its first flood-related fatality of the season after a woman reportedly drowned in floodwaters at Sissiborgaon in Dhemaji district.
