Guwahati, July 8 -- The old Saraighat Bridge over the Brahmaputra will remain shut to all vehicular traffic from July 13 to September 15 as authorities undertake extensive repair and strengthening work, Kamrup (Metro) District Commissioner Swapneel Paul said on Tuesday.

The decision follows a communication from the Railways highlighting the need for major maintenance on the decades-old bridge. In response, the Kamrup (Metro) and Kamrup district administrations, along with other concerned departments, held a series of coordination meetings to prepare a traffic diversion plan for the duration of the repairs.

Announcing the decision, Paul said the two-month closure was finalised after detailed consultations with all stakeholder agencies. ...
