Assam: Nameri Tiger Reserve's tiger population rises from 3 to 12
Guwahati, July 3 -- The tiger population in Assam's Nameri National Park and Tiger Reserve has increased fourfold, from three in 2022 to 12 by the end of 2025, State Forest and Environment Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah said on Friday.
In a post on X, Baruah said the increase had been validated by the Wildlife Institute of India (WII).
"From just 3 tigers in 2022 to 12 by the end of 2025, Nameri Tiger Reserve has scripted a remarkable conservation success, validated by the Wildlife Institute of India," he said.
The minister also said two tigers have returned to the Sonai-Rupai Wildlife Sanctuary, the satellite core of the Nameri Tiger Reserve, after decades of absence.
