Assam: Nagaon bypoll records around 76% turnout, counting on October 9
Nagaon, Oct. 6 -- Polling for the Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election in Assam ended at 5 pm on October 6, with around 76 per cent of the constituency's 19.05 lakh electors casting their votes, an election official said.
The final turnout is expected to rise as voters who had entered polling stations before the close of voting were allowed to cast their ballots.
Voting began at 7 am across the constituency, which comprises eight Assembly segments. The by-election was necessitated by former Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi's resignation from the Lok Sabha. He later contested the Assam Assembly election from Dispur on a BJP ticket and won.
