Dibrugarh, Sept. 12 -- The body of a 22-year-old woman was recovered from a pit near Bastahara High School on Ram Mandir Road in Chabua, Dibrugarh, on Saturday morning, police said.

The deceased was identified as Chinki Bhuyan, who had reportedly been missing since Friday.

Police recovered her body in a partially undressed and decomposed condition, raising suspicion about the circumstances surrounding her death. Her family has alleged that she may have been sexually assaulted and murdered.

Police have arrested Sumit Kalandi in connection with the case and launched an investigation into the woman's death.
