North Lakhimpur, July 16 -- The continuing flood situation in Assam's Lakhimpur district claimed one life, while two teenagers remained missing after separate incidents over the last 24 hours, officials said on Thursday.

In the first incident, a man was swept away by the strong currents of the Balijan River at Simaluguri on Wednesday evening while attempting to clear water hyacinths trapped on the pillars of a bridge so that he could catch fish.

The deceased was identified as Prasanta Duwarah (49), a resident of Ujani Bohupathar village in Bocha Pukhuri, Simaluguri.
