Guwahati, May 6 -- Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has submitted his resignation to Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, marking the beginning of the process to form a new government after the NDA's strong victory in the Assembly elections.
The resignation came shortly after the Chief Electoral Officer formally submitted the election results to the Governor, following constitutional procedure required before government formation.
The National Democratic Alliance secured a third consecutive term in Assam, winning 102 out of 126 seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party led the alliance with 82 seats, while allies Asom Gana Parishad and Bodoland Peoples Front won 10 seats each.
