Guwahati, Aug. 16 -- Guwahati and nearby areas are likely to experience thunderstorms, lightning, and spells of heavy rain over the next 24 hours, according to a weather alert issued by the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) under the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Guwahati, on Sunday, August 16.

The warning is in effect from 8.30 am on August 16 to 8.30 am on August 17. The RMC has forecast light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning across Guwahati and surrounding areas during this period.

Rainfall of up to 6 cm may be recorded in 24 hours, while isolated locations could receive heavy showers ranging from 7 cm to 11 cm.
