Guwahati, July 25 -- The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has fined a resident Rs 10,000 for illegally piling construction materials on a public street in the city's Roopnagar locality, highlighting a widespread civic nuisance affecting neighborhoods across Guwahati.

The fine was issued to Dr. S. M. Bhagawaty after GMC officials discovered heaps of sand, bricks, and stone aggregates dumped outside his residence. The material had spilled over onto the roadside, encroaching on public space and blocking access for both vehicular traffic and pedestrians.
