Guwahati, July 22 -- Amid the worsening flood situation in Assam, state Congress president Gaurav Gogoi on Tuesday urged the government to expedite relief, rescue and rehabilitation measures for people affected across the state.

As part of his visit to inundated areas in the Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency, Gogoi met displaced residents, took stock of the damage caused by the floods and handed over relief items to affected families.

He said the flood crisis continues to cause widespread distress in Assam, including parts of Jorhat, with many households losing their homes and sources of income, while the disaster has also claimed several lives.
