Guwahati: The Gauhati High Court has directed the Assam government and civic authorities to take urgent steps to deal with the recurring problem of artificial flooding in Guwahati.
The authorities have also been asked to submit a report on the action taken before the next hearing of the case.
The Court began hearing the matter after taking suo motu cognizance of a petition highlighting the city's worsening flood and waterlogging situation. The petition was filed by advocate Sandeep Chamaria.
During the proceedings, the Court expressed concern over uncovered drains and manholes in different parts of Guwahati, saying they pose a serious threat to public safety.
