Guwahati: The Gauhati High Court on Friday admitted a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) related to Assam's State debt and overall fiscal situation under the Himanta Biswa Sarma government.

The matter has now been brought under judicial consideration.

Senior Advocate Kamal Nayan Chowdhary presented arguments in the case, referring to concerns over borrowing levels, off-budget liabilities and pending financial obligations.

He also cited findings of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG).

At the initial hearing, the Chief Justice expressed caution on the scope of relief that could be granted. However, the Bench observed that the issue was "real and concerning."
