Guwahati, May 12 -- Guwahati: The Gauhati High Court has asked authorities to urgently address the issue of uncovered drains in Guwahati and other urban areas of Assam, highlighting the threat they pose to public safety.

The directions were issued during the hearing of a public interest litigation filed by advocate Sandip Chamaria. The court instructed officials to ensure that all open drains in Guwahati are covered without further delay and directed them to place a progress report before the court by May 25.

The bench also asked the Commissioner of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation to stay ready with necessary information and appear before the court whenever required.
