Guwahati: The Gauhati High Court has granted bail to a forest department official, Shivashish Shandilya, who was earlier arrested in a bribery-related case.

Shandilya, posted as a Regional Forest Officer in Lakhimpur, was detained by the Anti-Corruption Directorate after he was allegedly apprehended while taking Rs 12,000 as bribe on May 1.

Subsequently, a search operation was carried out at his residence in Japorigog locality of Guwahati, during which authorities reportedly recovered Rs 5.68 lakh in cash. The seizure added weight to the allegations already under probe.

With the latest court order, the accused has been released on bail, even as the investigation into the case continues.
