Assam: Flood situation improves as affected population falls to 51,000, death toll remains 104
Guwahati, Aug. 17 -- The flood situation in Assam showed further improvement on Sunday, August 16, with the number of affected people declining to around 51,000, according to the latest bulletin issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).
Five districts-Golaghat, Sivasagar, Nagaon, Dhemaji and Jorhat continued to remain affected, with floodwaters covering 14 revenue circles and 170 villages.
No fresh flood-related deaths were reported in the 24 hours preceding the bulletin, keeping the death toll from this year's floods at 104.
Nagaon remained the worst-affected district, with 32,132 people impacted, followed by Jorhat with 7,426 and Sivasagar with 5,676. The overall number of affected people fell from around 62,00...
