Guwahati, Aug. 16 -- Five people have been arrested after the death of Sub-Inspector Nabajit Das, with police now probing a possible connection between the incident and an alleged drug network in Assam's Juria.

Das, the officer-in-charge of the Laisong police outpost in Assam's Dima Hasao district, was carrying out a night naka-checking operation when a vehicle hit him.

The death was initially viewed as an accident, but investigators later began examining the possibility of a planned attack.

Selim Uddin, whom police have named as the main accused, was arrested during follow-up operations.

Sources have described him as an alleged wholesale drug dealer and the suspected operator of a drug network in Juria.
