Guwahati, Sept. 9 -- The eviction of street vendors from key stretches of Fancy Bazar has sparked protests in Guwahati, with nearly 200 vendors taking to the streets on Wednesday, September 9, demanding that the administration reconsider the eviction and allow them to resume their businesses.

According to an application dated September 4, the vendors said the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) had stopped them from opening their roadside shops from September 1. They sought permission to resume vending along H.B. Road, from Khubchand Chariali to Sikh Mandir Police Point Chariali, and appealed for intervention to safeguard their livelihoods.
