Guwahati, July 9 -- Authorities in Assam's Dhubri district have arrested the headmaster of a government lower primary school after a woman accused him of sexually assaulting her and forcing her into an illicit relationship, police said.

The arrested headmaster, Shahjahan Hussain Sheikh, is a resident of Kachuwar Khas in Dhubri.

He was posted at 333 Sohrab Char Lower Primary School at the time of the alleged incident.

Police said the woman accused Sheikh of sexually exploiting her and compelling her to maintain an illicit relationship near the school.

She subsequently approached the police and filed a First Information Report (FIR) outlining the allegations.
