Guwahati, July 23 -- Senior Congress leader Pawan Khera is expected to appear before the Assam Police Crime Branch in Guwahati on Wednesday in connection with a defamation case filed by Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, the wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

According to sources, Khera is likely to reach Guwahati from New Delhi on a morning flight before appearing at the Crime Branch headquarters around 11 am for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.

The summons is linked to a defamation complaint lodged by Riniki Bhuyan Sharma over remarks allegedly made by the Congress leader. The Crime Branch is expected to record Khera's statement during the course of the investigation.
