Dibrugarh, Aug. 5 -- Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday visited the family of 13-year-old Hridip Panika at Bamun Pukhuri in Sivasagar, who died after being swept away by floodwaters while trying to rescue his pet dog Barun.

Sarma met Hridip's parents, Bharati Panika and Dipak Panika, and provided financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the bereaved family.

Hridip, a Class VII student, has been remembered across the village for his courage and compassion after he sacrificed his life while attempting to save his pet during the devastating floods.
