Guwahati : A Senior Section Engineer (SSE) of the Carriage and Wagon Department of the Northeast Frontier Railway in Silchar was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on June 14 in connection with an alleged bribery case.

The arrest followed a complaint from a contractor who claimed that the railway official had sought an illegal payment in exchange for facilitating the release of a pending bill valued at around Rs 20 lakh for work that had already been completed.

Acting on the complaint, the CBI registered a case on June 13 and launched a trap operation. During the operation, the engineer was allegedly caught while accepting Rs 20,000 from the contractor. Investigators stated that th...
