Guwahati: The Assam Cabinet, in a meeting held on Saturday at Lok Sewa Bhawan in Dispur under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, approved two major policy measures focused on urban expansion and administrative regulation.

A key decision taken by the Cabinet was the approval for the creation of the Guwahati Satellite Cities Development Authority (GSCDA). The new body will be responsible for planning and overseeing the development of satellite townships around Guwahati, which has been experiencing significant urban pressure due to rapid population growth and expanding infrastructure needs.
