Doomdooma, Aug. 30 -- The Doomdooma regional committee of Bir Lachit Sena on Friday submitted a memorandum to the Doomdooma Forest Division in Assam's Tinsukia district, demanding an immediate halt to alleged illegal sand mining, timber smuggling and unauthorised earth excavation across the Doomdooma Co district area.

The organisation alleged that indiscriminate extraction of river sand was causing serious damage to the natural environment and demanded an immediate crackdown on the illegal mining of the region's valuable riverine sand.
